The Diocese of Lexington

Seal of the Diocese of Lexington
Since the earliest days of the Christian faith, the church has been organized into geographical regions called dioceses. Our diocese is the Diocese of Lexington, which consists of 35 parishes in the eastern half of the state of Kentucky. A map of the diocese is at the bottom of this page.
The diocese was formed from the older Diocese of Kentucky, which was founded in 1832 and which incorporated the whole state. In 1895 the growing population of Kentucky resulted in the diocese of Kentucky being split into two, and the Diocese of Lexington was the new name of the eastern diocese.
The cathedral of the diocese is Christ Church Cathedral, in Lexington.
The Diocesan Website is http://www.diolex.org/.

Bishop-elect The Very Reverend Douglas Hahn
On Saturday, August 18, the Diocese of Lexington elected The Very Rev'd Douglas Hahn as its seventh bishop. Father Hahn was elected on the second ballot. He currently serves the parish of St. Thomas, Columbus GA.
Although the other dioceses of The Episcopal Church still have to grant their consent to the election, Bishop-elect Hahn will be consecrated in mid-December at Christ Church Cathedral in Lexington. Find out more about the bishop-elect here. Please keep him, his wife Kaye, St Thomas' Church, and our diocese in your prayers.

The Right Reverend Chilton Knudsen

The Rt Rev'd Chilton R. Knudsen
In September 2011, the 6th bishop of Lexington, the Right Reverend Stacy F. Sauls, was called to New York to begin work as the Chief Operating Officer of The Episcopal Church.
Currently, the Diocese of Lexington is searching for its 7th Diocesan Bishop, a process that will continue until December 2012.
In the meantime, the diocese is under the pastoral care of The Right Reverend Chilton R. Knudsen, retired bishop of Maine. Bishop Knudsen is our Interim Assisting Bishop, which means that she will be in the diocese on a part-time basis, and will work in cooperation with the Standing Committee of the diocese on matters of administration. Bishop Knudsen will visit parishes, officiate at ordinations and confirmations, and represent the diocese at General Convention and within the House of Bishops.
Bishop Knudsen visited St. Mary's on November 13th, 2011.
Read her reflection and a biography of a the bishop in the October 12th issue of the DioLex Link.
